What is Community I-Care?

Community I-Care is a registered Australian charity, created by Luxottica in 2003 with the goal of providing eye care to Australian communities in need.

Community I-Care has been a charitable leader in the optometric industry and is committed to helping disadvantaged people see more clearly. It is our belief that clear vision is a basic right, not a luxury.

What has Community I-Care done so far?

The program has screened over 122,000 people, many of them children, and donated more than 70,000 pairs of glasses in the last 5 years.

Community I-Care has been the major sponsor of the Croc Festivals® held annually throughout remote and regional Australia. These 3-day festivals provide the perfect environment to screen and test thousands of school students. Free prescription glasses in brand new frames are given to all students who need them. Since 2003, we have screened over 51,700 students, conducted over 2,700 eye exams and provided more than 1,100 pairs of glasses.

In addition, there are regular regional clinics run in South Australia and Queensland to assist Indigenous Health Services, along with key partnerships with The Salvation Army, Mission Australia and the KIDS Foundation.

The partnership with the Salvation Army works on the ground level with our OPSM stores. Salvation Army representatives identify people in need of glasses who can’t afford them and refer them to the service in-store, which is at no cost to them.

We now also partner with our USA Foundation, ‘Gift of Sight’, in overseas missions to provide recycled glasses to local communities in countries such as Thailand, China, and Mexico.

How you can help

You can assist Community I-Care by donating your old glasses or making a tax-deductible cash donation at any one of our OPSM Australian stores.
